People don't get it. Color is beautiful! Variety Is Beautiful! We live in a world that still considers the anglo human beings to be superior, when its obvious that ALL COLORS are making, have been making, and have made SUBSTANTIAL contributions to this planet. Contributions that enable EVERYONE to have life easier. Fashion Houses are definitely perpetuating the idea that COLOR isn't beautiful ! And just because they put Alek Wek and Naomi Campbell on some runways and in some advertisements doesn't mean that they've solved the dilemma, they haven't even come close to addressing it! If you notice, any girl that kinda looks like either one of those fabulous models are are scooped up by these mass advertising campaigns not because of their talent .. but because they resemble some black chic that everyone knows .. and they count on people not taking the time to distinguish the real from the fake. THATS RACISM! They're not necessarily seen as models, but seen as a color .. there are few (if not, none) who can actually break that color barrier; to be seen as a person and not a color. I dont even think Naomi has broken the barrier, and she's THE SUPERMODEL. Yes, Barack is President ... No, racism has not been abolished, but we are definitely moving in the right direction! We need THE NEW GENERATION of designers, stylists, image consultants, editors .. anyone in the FASHION WORLD to leave racial injustice in the past .. where it belongs. RACISM is SOOOO LAST CENTURY .. its a NEW AGE, a NEW TIME .. let's be progressive .. we're all human, and we all DESERVE the same opportunities! Its time for people to START GETTING IT, right Patty?

Yeah I don't get it either. And Sandro hit it on the head when they said that "Fashion Houses are definitely perpetuating the idea that COLOR isn't beautiful" because the models are out there they just aren't picking them to walk their runways which begs the question "have we truly progressed in this day and age against racism?" I fear not.

I'd also like to see some "Curvy" models walking the runways. I'm not talking about women who misclassify themselves as "curvy" and yet look like they could play football for the Pittsburgh Steelers or NY Giants but ones with natural curves and who are healthy because they live a healthy lifestyle.

If I was a designer I would want to see how my dress looked on a real woman and not some thin rail. For that I could just hang the dress on a hanger and wire it down the runway! Hmmm, there's a thought ... especially during these times when everyone is cutting expense.
